One Local Summer, Week 3

Lookit her go!

Told you I would do better this week. First off we have Tuesday nights dinner. The Mr. & E had chicken breast from who-knows-where. They are the new Tyson “free” chicken breast. Supposedly free of antibiotics and growth hormones. Don’t know how much I believe those statements coming from Tyson but bought them nonetheless. Mainly because our HEB had them on sale for $1.99lb. Hey, got to save where you can right.

Anyway, along with the chicken we (I) had:
Potato Gratin made with potatoes and garlic picked up at the farmers market, Promised Land Dairy milk and Falfurrias butter. I did use the usual non-local cast of characters: salt, pepper & 1 tablespoon flour.

Sautéed zucchini & onions also from the farmers Market

Wednesday Night’s Dinner was Carne Guisada:
Beef came from Wild Type Ranch
Onion, bell pepper & tomato from farmers market
Tortillas were made by me using “White Wings”. A not very good for you tortilla mix distributed by Pioneer Flour Co. in San Antonio. I highly doubt the flour is local to Texas but we really needed tortillas for this and it was the best I could come up with.
New Mexico Chili Powder: I am going to say local on this one only because I actually purchased it in New Mexico. Is that considered cheating?

Tonight it was frittata.
Eggs gifted to me by Sara when we picked up our beef.
Potatoes, onion, greens & tomato from RR farmers market.
Lone Star Chevre

For folks signing up to do the 100-mile diet, their web site says that bringing home local foods from other places that you visit is allowed, so I think the chili powder isn't cheating.

Your frittata triptych is lovely, and looks delicious.
